  • Student paper received Excellent Paper Award from IEEE International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Information and Communication (ICAIIC) in February 2023.   • Ademola Ikusan defended his PhD dissertation entitled "Quality-Aware Video Processing for Deep-Learning-Based Analytics Tasks" on July 18, 2022.
     
  • Dara Ros defended his MS thesis entitled "Vision-Based Fall Detection Using Confidence Prediction and Motion Analysis" on March 7, 2022. Dara received the Outstanding Master's Thesis Award in EECS in April 2022. 
     
  • Mohammad Nazmus Sadat defended his PhD dissertation entitled "QoE-Aware Video Communication in Emerging Network Architectures" on July 14, 2021. Dr. Sadat is joining Bradley University as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the department of CS&IS from Fall 2021.

     

  • Aishvarya Rathore defended her MS thesis entitled "Quality Analysis of UAV-based 3D Reconstruction and its Applications in Path Planning" on May 12, 2021.
     
  • PhD student Mohammad Nazmus Sadat has been selected as a winner of the 2020-2021 URC Graduate Student Stipend and Research Cost Program for Faculty-Student Collaboration on March 15, 2021. Dr. Dai will serve as the faculty collaborator for this project.
     
  • A team of students supervised by Dr. Dai won the Best Team Project in the Constrained Category of the 2020 Beyond 5G Software Defined Radio (SDR) University Challenge hosted by the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) on June 12, 2020. The goal of the winning project, “Cross-Layer Video Communication”, was, to design and implement a cross-layer video communication system over SDR to provide satisfactory Quality of Experience (QoE) to human users. The student team was comprised of the following members: PhD students Mohammad Nazmus Sadat (Team Leader) and Erwin Vargas-Alfonso, and Undergraduate students Ziqian Huang, Sunmeng Lin, and Yiling Fu.
     
  • Lingchao Kong defended his PhD dissertation entitled “Modeling of Video Quality for Automatic Video Analysis and Its Applications in Wireless Camera Networks” on June 27, 2019.

     

  • PhD student Mohammad Nazmus Sadat and Dr. Dai demonstrated a quality assessment framework for image transmission over Software-Defined Radio in the Beyond 5G Software Defined Radio (SDR) University Showcase, Dayton, Ohio, May 2-3, 2019.

  • Dr. Dai gave an invited talk on video quality assessment for analytics in the Academic Perspectives Panel of the Second Workshop on Video Analytics in Public Safety (VAPS) on Nov. 6, 2018.
     
  • Dr. Dai and PhD student Lingchao Kong demonstrated research results on information-driven video communication in the 2018 PSCR Public Safety Broadband Stakeholder Meeting in June 2018.

  • Dr. Dai serves as an advisor for the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Research Experiences for Women Undergraduates (REWU) program in Summer 2017. Jingyi Zhu, an undergraduate in the Joint Co-op Institute program with Chongqing University, has co-authored two conference papers with MNC Lab members through the WISE program.

  • Dr. Dai gives a seminar entitled “Multimedia Sensor Systems: Theories and Applications in Healthcare” in the Biomedical Informatics Hutton Lecture Series at Cincinnati Children’s, March 2017.
     
  • Student paper selected as Best Paper Candidate in IEEE International Symposium on Multimedia. PhD student Lingchao Kong presents his paper in the Best Paper Session of IEEE International Symposium on Multimedia (ISM) in December 2016. ISM is the flagship conference of IEEE Technical Committee on Multimedia, with an acceptance rate of 26.1% in 2016. The paper entitled “Temporal-Fluctuation-Reduced Video Encoding for Object Detection in Wireless Surveillance Systems” is coauthored by Lingchao Kong and Dr. Dai.
                                                                 
     

  • Kevon Scott defended his MS thesis entitled “Occlusion-Aware Sensing and Communication in Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Networks” on November 10, 2016.
