Tony Seta, Senior Grant Administrator for EECS, won the department's Staff Award for Outstanding Performance & Excellence 2013
Marc Cahay has just been recognized as a Fellow of the American Physical Society. Only 0.005% of the 48,000+ membership of APS achieve the status of Fellow. Dr. Art Helmicki has been chosen as permanent Department Head for the Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Systems.
Dr. Art Helmicki has been involved in a wide variety of multi-disciplinary research. His research funding levels are impressive, together with his Co-PIs such as EECS research professor Victor Hunt, he has averaged $543K per year over his career (‘90-‘13). In addition to research, Dr. Helmicki has done an outstanding job in administrative roles, leading the development of the creation and strategic planning for EECS. We look forward to his leadership as the Department Head, responsible for the management and operations of the school’s 5 BS programs, 3 MEng programs, 3 MS programs and 3 PhD programs, 43 faculty, 12 staff, rapidly growing enrollment of 700 undergraduate students, and 350 graduate students.
In October, the Cincinnati Enquirer launched a major new initiative, EnterChange, to highlight and promote innovation and entrepreneurship around in the Cincinnati area. EECS is the lead department in creation of the new Ohio Center for Microfluidic Innovation (OCMI), with 4 of the 6 co-PI's from EECS.

- Dr. Jason Heikenfeld runs the Novel Devices Laboratory
- Dr. Ian Papautsky runs the Bio Micro Systems Laboratory
- Dr. Andrew Steckl runs the Nanoelectronics Laboratory

Jason Heikenfeld with corporate partners HP and Merck Chemicals recently received a grant of $357,526 from the National Science Foundation for “GOALI: Bi-Primary Electrokinetic Displays - Electronic Paper with Color Performance Approaching Printed Media,” a proposal that received NSF’s highest panel rating of ‘Excellent.’
Art Helmicki and Victor Hunt recently received a grant of $804,426 from the Ohio Department of Transportation for “Engineering Services for the Ironton-Russell Bridge / PHASE III: Service Monitoring.”

Ali Minai recently received a grant of $999,722 from the National Science Foundation for “INSPIRE: The Hunting of the Spark: A Systematic Study of Natural Creativity in Human Networks.”
Dr. Carla Purdy and Dr. Phil Wilsey recently received a grant of $313,172 from L-# Fuzing & Ordinance Systems for “Studies to Minimize Failures in Embedded Systems Software.”
Dr. Jason Heikenfeld recently received a grant of $121,794 from Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory for “Electrofluidic Films Research.”
