Electrical Energy and SmartGrid

Minor Advisor: M. Rabiee

Electric power generation, monitoring and control are important not only in large power plants and distribution systems, but also in fields such as aerospace and renewable electric energy. Skills can be applied to problems such as setting up remote power systems on temporary air bases or space stations and developing intelligent power distribution systems for the communities of today and tomorrow.

Each student must take 6 courses and up to 21-credits hours from the listed courses below:

Required Courses:

Fall

  • Senior Project I--related to Energy (3 cr)
  • EECE 5116C Electric Machines & Drives (4 cr)   OR   ELTN 4016C Electric Machinery (4 cr)**

Plus one elective course from the following:

  • ELTN 4056C Computer Networks (4 cr)
  • ELTN 4057C Wireless Communication (4 cr)**
  • EECE 5111 RF and Microwave Wireless Comm. (3 cr)

Spring

  • Senior Project II--related to Energy (3 cr)
  • EECE 5115C Instrumentation & Industrial Control (4 cr)  OR ELTN 4015C Flexible Automation (4 cr)**

Plus one elective course from the following:

    • ELTN 4041C Data Acquisition and Measurements (4 cr)
    • ELTN 4069C Electric Power & Power Electronics Sys. (3 cr) **
    • EECE 5126 Intro to Communication Systems (3 cr) - EECE 5119 Random Processes is a prerequisite for this course
    • EECE 5131, Interconnection Networks

    **Does not count towards minor for EET or CET students
