College of Engineering at University of CincinnatiThe Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (EECS) at the University of Cincinnati's main campus, just blocks away from Clifton’s historic Gaslight District. Nine Fortune 500 companies, including Procter & Gamble and Kroger, are headquartered in Cincinnati. The metro area has a wide variety of cultural and entertainment options to delight anyone all year long.

Cincinnati is home to two professional sports teams, the nation’s second oldest zoo (and rated as one of the best), one of the top orchestras playing year-round in North America, nationally recognized museums, one of the top ten public libraries in the United States, the largest amusement and waterpark in the Midwest, and too many excellent restaurants, festivals, and shows to mention here.

EECS offers programs of study leading to BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Electrical or Computer Engineering or Computer Science or Electrical Engineering Technology. EECS also offers the ACCEND (ACCelerated ENgineering Degree) program which allows students to earn both a BS and MS degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering or Computer Science in the same amount of time as a standard BS degree.

EECS Students & Graduates

ACCEND BS+MS in EngineeringEECS Electrical Engineers help shape the design and manufacturing processes of microlectronics, control systems, signal processing systems, and other technologies that impact our daily lives. EECS Computer Engineers specialize in the design and analysis of computer hardware and software. Our students and alumni are very successful in their chosen careers. EECS currently has 522 undergraduate students enrolled in our programs (235 CE, 231 EE, 56 ACCEND). Our undergraduate students all obtain a large amount of real-world work experience through our cooperative education program and get to demonstrate the knowledge they have acquired through the course of their first four years of study by completing a Senior Design Project

EECS has 141 Masters students and 135 Doctoral students. Our large graduate student enrollment is sustained by a substantial research program. EECS research programs are supported by an expenditure rate of approximately $3,000,000 per year. Our MS and PhD graduates go on to pursue successful careers in industry and academia. One notable alumnus is Vinod Dham who is credited with the design of the Pentium processor.

Cooperative Education (Co-op)

Engineering CoopWe have a large, diverse Co-op program that is ranked in the top 10 in the nation by US News and World Report. All undergraduate students are required to participate in the co-op program where they will alternate terms of full-time work experience with full-time classes, completing at least four co-op semesters before graduation. The University provides opportunities for both domestic and international co-op and students earn an average of $50,000 during their co-op semesters while at EECS.

An additional benefit of the co-op experience is that EECS students usually receive job offers from their co-op employers upon graduation. A wide variety of national firms employ our students including Apple, AMD, Intel, Lockheed Martin, NASA, and Texas Instruments.

We also have significant local co-op employers including Duke Energy, Procter & Gamble, Cincinnati Bell, General Electric, Toyota, and Wright Patterson Air Force Base.

Research at EECS

EECS research Electrical Engineering Researchis supported by state-of-the-art technologies supported by research programs funded at over $3,000,000 annually. Research funding comes from a variety of sources including the Air Force, Army, Department of Defense, National Institutes of Health, Procter & Gamble, National Science Foundation, National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, General Dynamics, and many more. Our research includes strong collaboration with the University of Cincinnati Medical School, University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, many other UC colleges and departments, and a large number of other colleges and universities.
EECS is also home to a large number of laboratories, each home to different disciplinary areas encompassing a diverse array of research topics. Visit the Research & Labs page to learn more about these facilities.
