Research & Development

With spending on industrial Research & Development decreasing as a percentage of overall budget and universities finding increased focus on applied R&D, now is the time for your company to consider tapping into UC research and development.

The Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Systems has a highly industry-oriented and entrepreneurial faculty. Three of our faculty, Doctors Ahn, Beyette, and Heikenfeld, have won UC’s, highest awards for entrepreneurship. Generally, industry interacts with EECS in two ways:

  1. Industrially Sponsored Research and Development
  2. Licensing and Technology Transfer

Industry sponsored research and development occurs either when a company already has one or more specific problems in mind or, increasingly, when industry-EECS partnerships are formed to explore new opportunities. Research partnerships between EECS and industry are by far the most productive. This approach has led to the development of some of the strongest R&D programs. In addition, by working with EECS, your company will be able to tap into federal, state, and other funding to support the successful research venture.

EECS is experienced in licensing and tech transfer of a wide variety of technology from microelectronics to medical devices. We work with UC's highly cooperative Intellectual Property Office, which is dedicated to supporting an environment where innovation and invention can thrive and working to transfer and commercialize UC intellectual assets into benefits for the region and public good.
