GSGA Student Travel Awards - Eligibility & Application Process Details

""

The eligibility details and the application process for the GSGA travel awards are given below.

  1. Conference Travel Award (CTA) - FULL
  2. Conference Travel Award (CTA) - Partial ($100)
  3. One-Time Research Award (RA)

Note 1: The maximum funding from the GSGA travel awards is $400 per year for every student. For all purposes of the GSGA, "One Year" refers to the time period starting the first day of the summer quarter of the current year to the last day of summer break (the break after spring quarter) of the following year.

Note 2: A student cannot exceed $400 (any award) per year or $400 of research award in the entire graduate career at UC. However, that amount can be availed as a combination of any of the three awards.

This $100 award is for students who wish to attend a conference but are not presenting their research in any format. A student must satisfy all the following criteria to be eligible for this award:
  1. Must be a degree seeking graduate student with at least 12 credit hours earned.

One-Time Research Award (RA):

This award is designed to help students obtain funds for helping/furthering their research. Students can use this money to buy consumables or research materials - things that are not available for free to the student from the university or to fund travel for research activity. This money cannot be used for traveling to conferences.

A student must satisfy all the following criteria to be eligible for the RA.

  1. Must be a degree seeking graduate student with at least 12 credit hours earned.
  2. Must be registered for at least one credit hour every quarter (except Summer).
  3. Must be a member of a properly registered and active GSA group*.
  4. Must not have exhausted $400 in RA monies already.

* The CS GSA is an active GSA group and hence, satisfies this requirement.

Applying for and receiving the RA is a two step process described in detail here. A student can apply for a RA, for up to $400, only once during his/her graduate schooling at UC. The application form is also available here.

Please contact a CS GSA committee member or a GSGA office bearer if you have any questions.
