In The News: Natural Language

Recently, one research project in the laboratory has received a considerable amount of popular media attention. The work is on a necessary aspect of sociable computing, namely recognizing intentional ambiguities in informal language that are designed to be humorous.

The following lists some of the attention that we have received. For the most part, stories that were captured were those accessible online; the captures were effected collecting the PDFs of the online sources. PDFs needed to be captured as online sources sometimes disappear. Some of the online sources were reflections of articles that appeared in associated print media, some exist only as web entities (some are news sites; some are filtered news blogs, a few are simple blogs).

Only a small sampling was captured; many others can be found with a Google search searching for: Mazlack+Taylor+(humor or joke). The deficiency of this query is that non-English stories may be missed because "humor" and "joke" may be translated into the non-English language..

The dates on this page indicate when the story first appeared. Internal to the PDFs, there may be different dates that indicate when the story was captured and placed into a PDF.
